Did you know that Mr Percival (the pelican used in the movie) died last year at the age of 33. The pelican lived a very happy life!

Blue Fin is another that is a lovely read and that was when I realised (as a child) that tuna didn't come from a tin but from Port Lincoln.

Colin Thiele wrote many childrens books (in total he wrote more than 100 books) and was much loved in South Australia which is why so many of his books were on the school reading list.

There are many Australian books that we should embraces - have you read the Billabong books (by Mary Grant Bruce), I loved them as a girl and love them still - after reading them I wanted to live on a outback station!!Finding Joyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09882774610725490491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-143485269626703118.post-54412833407629339532010-07-12T14:24:33.460+10:002010-07-12T14:24:33.460+10:00Loved his Sun on the Stubble. That era produced some wonderful authors though: Eleanor Spence, Hesba Brimsmead, Nan Chauncy, Ivan Southall, Patricia Wrightson...lots of great authors who wrote good, solid books. More recently John Marsden & Garth Nix have written books that should become classics: Tomorrow when the War began/ Sabriel; I particularly like Nix. The books aren't as well known & we may have to think a little harder to come up with the names but I think we have them ~ & of course the Mary Poppins author was an Aussie. *smirk*Ganeidahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17176246964466185315noreply@blogger.com
