I confess vague to zero recollections of all these stories from my childhood, and the same goes for Blinky Bill. He was at the bookstall too, but I passed it up because, as my DH commented offhandedly, 'he was soooo naughty' and my initial thought was 'well I'm not reading a book to my girls that glorifies naughtiness - they don't need any more ideas put in their heads!'<br /><br />I don't want to needlessly deny our kids the God-given gifts of quality Australian literature, but my moral meter (always in need of finetuning) currently doesn't allow heroic wrongdoers past (with acknowledgment to the book I'm reading at the moment - Lit! by Tony Reinke - about being a discerning reader). Is Blinky Bill a heroic wrongdoer (albeit unintentionally - which doesn't necessarily absolve the author)? What is the author's message, by the way? Perhaps Blinky always pays for his mischief, does he? <br /><br />Likely I will face this issue time and again... I'd love to hear more about how your mind works it through. I don't mind if you think I'm on a bit of a moralistic high horse and say as much - that's exactly what I'm scared of. But if so, do spell out why, won't you, for the sake of my learning.Lucilanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-143485269626703118.post-29639435792860008112010-03-17T12:38:55.981+11:002010-03-17T12:38:55.981+11:00We have an old chapter book version of Blinky Bill...We have an old chapter book version of Blinky Bill.
