We're keeping a running list of the animals to be found on the Swiss Family Robinson's island. We're only up to chapter ten, or so, and so far they've seen - and probably shot at and eaten - the following:
Penguins
Flamingos
Sea lobsters
Oysters
Mussels
Agouti
Monkeys
Jackals
Sharks
Turtles
Bustards
River lobsters
Porcupines
Margays
Also:
Coconuts
Gourds
Sugarcane
Figs
Turtle eggs
Yeah sure. So realistic. Stay tuned for more!!!
In spite of the fact that Miss Moppet watched that movie numerous times when she was little, it is one of her least favorite books. She says that she can deal with the unrealistic aspect in the movie because it's visually entertaining, but in the book it just drove her crazy - the animals from all different continents, finding a field of wheat and managing to harvest it... it's just too much, says she!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Sue. A most annoying book. lol
ReplyDeleteIt is annoying in one way, I mean the father is rather a know all, pedantic. but the flight of imagination grabs me in everytime once I get over the Father.
ReplyDeleteWe're having fun so far, but honestly, they need to show their love towards each other so much better. Say only nice things to each other, y'know!
ReplyDeleteI read this book when I was young and absolutely adored it. I was so outraged when my mom and brother pointed out it was unrealistic! I still feel fondly toward Swiss Family Robinson.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I hate the movie and won't let my kids see it.
Jeanne... go and check your email, there is something important I am telling you there... (it is about a book!, what else? :)
ReplyDeleteYou haven't come across the large marsupial yet?
ReplyDeleteNot yet. He'll bounce on in soon.
ReplyDeleteWe too read this last year and my girls really found parts of it totally annoying. We also went through and worked out as many animals as we cud find and the concensus is that we will only allow ourselves to be shipwrecked on that island should it ever happen. ;-)
