Remembering

My family commemorated Remembrance Day early this year, as we remembered my grandfather's contribution to the Allied victory at Beersheba in 1917 whilst we visited The Park of the Australian Soldier in Be'er Sheva, Israel in October.

Three generations of Bolton women.

Our group gathered together at the Park, and had the privilege of hearing my husband reading the exciting account of The Charge directly from Grandpa's diary, and then hearing my mum reminisce briefly about her Dad. I felt incredibly proud.

Today, the anniversary of the armistice that ended the First World War, at 11.00 am, we will observe a minutes's silence in remembrance of the Fallen in all wars. Will you join us?

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;

They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

Lest We Forget.

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
