You are a wicked, wicked girl...

We're watching Anne of Green Gables. Gotta love it, don't you?

Do you have a favourite quotation from this delightful film? Here are a few of mine - all said by the delightful Cordelia...oops...Anne herself:
My life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes. That's a sentence I read once and I say it over to comfort myself in these times that try the soul.

Farewell, my beloved friend. Henceforth, we must be strangers living side by side... but my heart will be ever faithful to thee.

Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it.

Don't worry. I've had lots of practice making apologies.
This last one's my favourite:

This is the most tragical thing that has ever happened to me.

I say it often!!

You must have some others...Do tell!

  1. Oh I love that movie!! But it has been far too long since I've seen it. Must rent or buy soon! Thanks for the reminder.

  2. Love the three movie series. I used to watch it every time PBS would run it here in the States. Finally got smart and taped them. My 10 yr old has finally watched and enjoyed the first movie and has read the book.

  3. Yes I love ... Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it.

I love when she says "I'm in the depths of despair"

There are so many I love..just a true all time classic!

  4. It has been a while since I've seen that one. I must refresh my memory! Anne is so delightful.

I'll never forget reading those books for the first time. It was the first year I came to live in Japan, I was 23. I found a little niche in a department store with a small selection of books in English. They had the first four books of "Anne" in hard cover, and for a very good price. I had never heard of them before (thank you public education), but bought the first one.

After devouring it I went back the next day for the rest, and there they sit on my bookshelf waiting for my daughter to pass the "romance is icky" stage ;-).

  5. " I thought out a confession last night after I went to bed & made it as interesting as I could. And I said it over & over so I wouldn't forget it."

    Impeccable logic.

I love these books but I had boys first so it is only now my girls are discovering & loving Anne. Sad, sad, sad but at least we got there.

  6. I love Anne of Green Gables and can't wait to read them to my daughter! I can't think of a favorite quote and that got me to thinking~ it's been way too long since I read the books myself!

  7. Greetings !
I am sorry this comment has nothing to do with the post, but thanks for the link. It all seems quite lively and interesting, in this peaceful day.
    Good-night to you,

  8. I have never read Anne of Green Gables - I know, I know. It is on my list of "to reads" so I may need to bump it up.

  9. Jeanne: off topic but I thought you might enjoy this Oscar Wilde quote;
"Now we sit through Shakespeare in order to recognize the quotations." Oscar Wilde.

    lol. Blessings

  10. LOVE LOVE LOVE Anne! We must buy those DVDs. We have to settle for watching them each time my sister comes to stay and brings them with her.
We will think about our favourite Anne quotes and come back with them!

  11. Fantastic movie! So innocent and pure. I love it!

I love Anne's dramatic phrases, and my favourite part is when she's attempting to apologise to Mrs Lynde. She does alot of fast talking in the middle of her apology when she says sorry for calling her 'ugly even though it's true'. LOL - Classic!!!

  12. This one's a goodie. It pretty well describes me on one of those days when I see those connections between things we are studying...I'm going to write a blog post about what inspired us today...

"Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?"

And this one makes me laugh. People often say this about my girls. I'm sure it's because they have been read aloud to with living books for so long. It has really expanded their vocabulary:

"And people laugh at me because I use big words. But if you have big ideas you have to use big words to express them, haven't you?"

  13. http://ceremonialsforcommondays.blogspot.com/2009/08/mothers-and-daughters-at-home.html Check it out! We do some of her "Mother Daughter" things. Anne is one we are looking forward to, but I doubt it'll be on Friday. At 13 B is just too "scheduled" [cue dramatic music] to spend a Friday night with M.O.M.

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
