Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Will you succeed?
Yes, you will indeed.
(98¾ percent guaranteed).
Oh joy!

Dr Seuss's final book as a pop up. Imagine that.

This book tackling life and its challenges works beautifully at 5, but it works equally well when your teen leaves home for university at 18, and when a friend finds herself suddenly single at 40. After all, nobody's too old to be reassured that their head is full of brains and their shoes are full of feet and that they're too smart to go down any not-so-good street, are they?
OH!
THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
Sometimes life will go your way; sometimes it won't:
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don't.
Because, sometimes you won't.

I always have a couple of these lovely books to post to friends in crisis, and this pop-up version will be a sublime addition to my Present Drawer. I love it.

As an aside, Julia Eccleshare in her book, 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up says that this book is often described as being a Christian book; others vehemently disagree. What do you think?

  1. It's just so cute! I love it. It IS good advice, although i must admit to wondering at times if I have a head full of feet, instead.

I think you can certainly see Christian imagery in this book, but whether Geisl intended that is not clear. I don't think it matters what he intended. If there are lessons to be learned, let's learn them.

  2. We have this book, and I love it! I agree with Book Chook; the lessons therein are wonderful, whether specifically Christian or not.

  4. Several years ago in my previous church, when we got a new pastor, he gave everyone in the congregation a copy of this book because he said it was a great book on leadership! Actually he may have been quoting John Maxwell, sorry, few years ago, can't remember the details! Anyway,
I don't think it's christian as such. I LOVE reading it to Rebekah and myself:)

  6. My mom gave me this book (the regular version) as a graduation gift from college. At the end...(so be your name Bauxum or Bixby or Bray, or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea)...She wrote in Matt 17:30 "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." and followed it up with "I'll be watching and praying and cheering you on! Love, Mom" Oh, and I can remember all that without looking. So, is the book Christian? Don't know, but it has a lot of truth in it regardless!

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
