- Robin by Mary Grant Bruce
- The Boundary Riders by Joan Phipson
- The Peppermint Pig by Nina Bawden
- Seven Little Billabongs by Brenda Niall - a fascinating book on the works of Mary Grant Bruce and Ethel Turner.
- This frivolously but beautifully bound copy of my favourite poem, The Hunting of the Snark.
They were sitting in a pile just to the left of the door saying, "Buy me! Buy me!"
They were, too!! I could hear them. Honest, I could! I think they even said my name. "Hey, Jeanne! Over here!" In fact, I'm sure they did.
Anyhow, I did.
I marched back to the checkout counter and I bought them all. A whole pile of ten books from Opal Wheeler and Sybil Deucher's Great Musicians Series.
Fifty bucks the set.
I'm so excited. Rejoice with me?!
wow! looks like Music Appreciation is covered for quite some time! Nice haul!
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, yeah, yeah! Wahoo, whoop, whoop!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd be rejoicing if I found those books too Jeanne! I loooove secondhand bookstores. Have a great weekend :-)
I love second-hand book shops so can relate to this buy. I haven't heard of Robin by Mary Grant Bruce.
ReplyDeleteYou're joking!! My mouth has hit the floor, really?!!! Fantastic, ten OW for $50!!! Incredibly wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteand I don;t have that MGB title either, haven't even heard of it. Niall's book sounds intriguing too. so very, very thrilled for you, nearly as good as finding them myself.
I once found a copy of John at Syndey cove by Doris Chadwick for 10cents!!! that was a fortuitous day:):)
My "John" was $8.00. I exclaimed out loud when I found it and everyone looked at me. I was so excited. 10c...oh my!!
ReplyDeleteI have Robin ~ found in a 2nd hand shop too~ & am hugely envious of the music score! lol Pun intended. ☺
ReplyDeleteEr.. Jeanne, did you delete my book tragic comment?
ReplyDelete(Perhaps I failed to post it....shrug)
Why, Brandon...was it rude? :)
ReplyDeleteVery, very jealous of the Musician series! I think they may be back in print, but I'd rather have the old ones!
ReplyDeleteJeanne.... THANKS for the geography tip. Sometimes the most obvious things escape us, and we need friends to brilliantly point them to us!
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me of Sherlock Holmes when he explained how he came to a conclusion one of his clients said, oh, that was easy, and he thought, funny that!, once explained everybody thinks they can come up with it, next time I'll keep it to myself. And this always reminds me of Einstein's quote, creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.
And I'm rejoicing with you...WONDERFUL FINDING! I hope to hear from the musicians series!
Rejoicing in your new friends!
ReplyDeleteWhat a satisfying trip you had.
Woo hoo! That's so fun! I bought a set of Creative Hands books once at the thrift store all about knitting, crochet, tatting, and the like.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, and I have been reading for a while.
I wondered how Jemimah's spelling is coming along? We found ourselves in the same boat as far as spelling -- (atroshus!). Any hints, tips, ideas appreciated!
