Out of 3,869 challenges reported to or recorded by the Office for Intellectual Freedom, as compiled by the Office for Intellectual Freedom, American Library Association. The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom does not claim comprehensiveness in recording challenges. Research suggests that for each challenge reported there are as many as four or five which go unreported.

  1. Is there a reason you've stayed away from Dostoevsky, my extremely well-read friend?

I had "Cold Comfort Farm" in my hands at the library book sale and put it down at the last minute. It is on my list for all-time favorite films though.

  2. Fun lists--I'll post my responses on FACEBOOK. On the banned books--#42 gave my son PTSD flashbacks for days. It took a therapist to figure it out--I'm not that smart. One of two books [one per kid] I've had to ask that they not finish reading in school.

  3. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is the only Russian author that I've read. Loved Cancer Ward and a Day in the Life.... He wasn't on either list though. Not even the banned one.

I really would like to read more Russian literature. I was actually thinking that this would make a great reading list. Maybe I'll start with Dostoevsky just for you, my erudite friend. Have you noticed I've left out all the highbrow choices?

  4. Glad #42 is on banned lists then. Have YOU read it? What is it like?

  5. oh, and Anna Karenina. That was Russian, wasn't it. Doesn't count really - I read Anna at school!

  6. If I wasn't on a spiritual journey - these books lists would look super inviting as a challenge.

  7. Mrs Adept! I read everything - even the cereal packet. Perhaps we could do a list of the top 100 Christian books! Now that would be interesting! Divisive perhaps though.

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
