Lessons from the Tree

Outside our kitchen window grows a Silky Oak tree.

Straight, strong, majestic, more than 60 feet tall, it blossoms once a year into a blaze of gold just when people start talking of putting up their Christmas trees. A few days later the musk parrots arrive and feast - like green and pink baubles amongst the boughs of gold.

This is our tree this morning:

God's creation reminds me of his glory. It is his handiwork and is perfectly under his control. When I look at this beautiful tree I wonder anew about the value of man:

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

Psalm 8:3-4 NIV

Despite the beauty of this tree, I am more valuable to God than it is.

Isn't that humbling?

It is to me.

O LORD, our Lord, in all the earth How excellent Thy name! Ps 8:1 Metrical Version

PS. Can you e-mail ME the MEP password? Your minute-by-minute post a while back inspired me to look again at the curriculum which I have downloaded onto my computer... but alas I have misplaced the sheet of paper that had ALL of my passwords! AGH!
    Thanks!

  3. I often feel that way. Winter stars on a dark moon night & I seriously wonder why God ever bothered with man. I'm glad He did. Enough beautyy to brak a heat; enough sadness to make us long for heaven. ☺

  4. Um, you have a Silky Oak tree, too - so do we, and ours is about the same size!

    I love the analogy.

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
