Do you agree? What would you put on the list to make it 20 of the best? If you're not an Aussie, why not hop over to The Peaceful Community and tell us 10 of the best picture books from your country? I for one would love to see what you come up with. For what is is worth, I limited myself to one book for each author. You might like to do the same. Or not.

Mel's list is here!

  1. Nice pictures!
By the way, I have started a blog which will comprise study literature in a more entertaining form than standard textbooks, see
CrisisMaven’s Economics Study Guide. It also contains a Reference List which aspires to eventually become the "one stop shop" for all economic data seriies, history, bibliographies etc.

  5. We just picked up Koala Lou and Hunwick's Egg from the library for bedtime tonight. Wished I'd had your list with me.

10 best...hmmm...is it better to just pick the first ten favorites that come into my head or agonize over the list for days?

  7. I've been out of picture books for a while but the Graeme Base books are delightful for all ages.
Koala Lou was a special favourite of one of my girls and she has kept it. Have a post in mind regarding her and that book... you just reminded me.
    Have a good week.

  8. I added the best Japanese books, which is pretty easy because, outside of anime, not many Japanese books seem to have been translated to English. (I didn't include Japanese-western authors like Allen Say and Satoshi Kitamura, who are expats, I believe.)

  9. Whenever I read one of your posts on 10 favorite books or something like that - I get to wonder over my ignorance. But there is an antidote to that, so it'll be over to view the library catalogue in a minute.

But I will add 'Magic Beach' by Allison Lester and 'Diary of a Wombat' by Jackie French

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
