Cinderella

Cinderella

She spins and she sways to whatever song plays,
Without a care in the world.
And I'm sittin' here wearin' the weight of the world on my shoulders.
It's been a long day and there's still work to do,
She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you!
There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited and I
need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I'd approve of a dress
She says "Dad, the prom is just one week away,
And I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She will be gone.

Well, she came home today
With a ring on her hand
Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned
She says "Dad, the wedding's due six months away
And I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
(even one song)
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

  1. This song is so beautiful. The first time I heard it I was driving and had to pull over cause I was crying so much. I never met my biological dad and didn't get along with my stepfather at all until I became an adult and we worked through our issues and he even apologised to me for the way he'd treated me. So this song pushed all my buttons about how dads and daughters should be, but it also makes me smile cause my little girl has a daddy who adores her and I love that!!!!!

  2. Did you know Steven's daughter, Maria, for whom he wrote the song, was killed in a tragic accident a year after he penned these words?

  3. I cannot hear that song without crying! That was before his daughter died..and after I cry more! A very beautiful song! We need to be reminded of the brevity of life and of the time we have with our children. I look at my one year old and wish she were older until I see my 12 year old and wonder where the time went.

  7. Yes, this is a lovely song. Beautiful words. Another song I like, a bit similar to this one is Butterfly Kisses.

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
