Christmas films and camera thieves

We're watching White Christmas, my beloved and I. It's nice. We're supposed to be out at a classy restauraunt for dinner, only when we went to leave the house a little while ago, all dressed up in our glad-rags and all, we discovered that the back window of our car had been smashed and thieves have stolen all of our camera equipment. All of it. Meh.

So now we're waiting for the windscreen repair men and watching a film.

Which makes me wonder - what are your favourite Christmas movies?

Do tell. It'll help occupy my mind a little.

Here's my list:

We collect timeless, traditional, holiday films and keep them in a special basket to watch each year. It is such a nice thing to do as a family.

Even if your car has been broken into.

  1. Oh no! I am sorry to hear about the theft. :-(

You have inspired me to see what our video store has. We saw "The Polar Express" and we liked it. It is good for the younger crowd who want suspense, but don't want to be scared. I also plan to rent "The Santa Clause."

The short cartoon version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas is very nice." And so is "A Charlie Brown Christmas." I heard some people were skeptical about it when it first aired because of the Bible reading Linus gives, but Charles Schulz insisted and of course it was a success.

  2. I think you and J's mom have it pretty well covered. It's a Wonderful Life is my absolute favorite, and Charlie Brown my favorite animated. I think I'll go get our Christmas DVDs out too!

So sorry to hear about your car and camera equipment, but very glad that no dear person was hurt in any way!

  3. Still haven't seen 'It's a wonderful life'. Must hire it.

Oh Jeanne, cannot believe all your camera gear was stolen, but like Sue said Praise God no one was hurt. xxx

  4. So very sorry to hear about the theft. What a gut wrench at this time of year when you would really want to be using it. Praying for the Lord's encouragement and provision.

We just discovered White Christmas last year and it quickly became a part of our holiday tradition.

  5. Sad to hear about the breakin, how annoying just before Christmas.

I haven't watched many old(er) Christmas movies, but plan to start!

  6. So sorry to hear about the smashing and theft--I hope they are caught.

I just got a VHS version of Henry Winkler's An American Christmas Carol--I've always like that one but haven't watched it for a few years. We also watch The Muppets' Christmas Carol with Michael Caine, and A Muppet Family Christmas. Last year we discovered The Great Rupert, also called A Christmas Wish. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0042524/ There's a clip on my blog: http://tinyurl.com/2dd6jxe

  7. Skipping Christmas, The Homecoming, The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant and David Niven), original Miracle on 34th STreet, Charlie Brown Christmas [the original in which Linus tells the Christmas Story) and, cheesy or not, Garfield's Christmas--love his gift to Grandma, the Santa Clause, Santa Clause the Movie and Scrooged. Probably a few others, but can't remember right now.

  8. Oh Jeanne, how terrible. So sorry to hear your sad news :( But glad, however, that you are ok and were able to enjoy a lovely film!

I think all of our favorites have been mentioned except Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn with Bing and Fred, The Nativity Story, and Elf (yes, we love that goofy movie!).

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
