I've been usurped

...and I don't mind in the slightest.

Who could resent being passed over in favour of Daddy for bedtime story-time when a peek in at the door shows this?

Awwwww. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, that does.

They're reading this lovely new edition of Elisabeth Beresford's The Wombles, illustrated by Nick Price, and apparently I don't read it nearly as well as Daddy.

If you're a Wombles fan like I am, you won't want to miss out on a copy of this sumptuous edition, lavishly illustrated on every page, and with an accompanying CD read by Bernard Cribbins OBE, the original voice of the Wombles.

You can listen to an audio clip in the books section of the official The Wombles Books website, if you want. If you're of...ahem...a certain age... as I am, the sound of that rich voice will take you right back to your childhood.

I tried reading an older unillustrated version to Jemimah a couple of years ago and it didn't go down very well. Perhaps it's a book that only Daddy can read? I don't know. Anyhow, this time it's going down a treat.

One of the things I love most about Mr PD is that he is totally involved in the raising of our daughter. He spends lots of time thinking about how he can be a better father, and he is totally committed to our family. He reads to her, rides bikes with her, paints with her, dreams with her. He also thinks about ways to help make her a better person, and he disciplines her with love.

That's what I see when I look at my favourite two people cuddling together at bedtime. And it makes me the happiest that I can be.

I love my family.

  3. Everything is just as it should be, very sweet :)

Please excuse my ignorance, but I only knew the Wombles as a TV series. It was absolutely delightful. I am thrilled to know of the lovely book you've found, which I will add to my wishlist for my children. Thanks!

  4. I read my Dad's trashy thrillers under the blankets with a torch when I was ten. :) I think the bedtime stories stopped when I learned to read for myself. That is a sweet picture and a lovely book, although I have to admit to knowing nothing about the Wombles.

  5. Ah, my son said your daughter is pretty. LOL

We will have to read "The Wombles" on our kindle as I am pretty restricted in the real life books I am allowed to clutter up this place with.

We are reading "Audrey of the Outback." We just started, but it is really cute. There are lots of "interesting" words, though. lol

  6. What a lovely sight. Sadly my husband never liked to read to the children so I did all the reading. So treasure these moments.

  8. I've been thinking about our read aloud time lately, dreading the day that they won't want me to read to them. Lovely to see J enjoying a story with her daddy. Gives me hope that we have lots of read aloud time left.

  10. Precious memories. My 22 yr old son now reads to his 10 yr old sister and is just as happy to listen to her read back to him. He is even impressed with her quality of reading. Which says a lot considering I taught her and he is an English major in his honours year at UNI!

You do have a lovely family, Jeanne. I could tell that your hubby is a great dad in those few hours we spent together at the zoo.

  13. Never heard of them, but they sound delightful to read! LOVE the photo--getting my dad to read took being in the hospital, but I've never forgotten it! Such a sweet picture.

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
