The Jungle...App

I grabbed myself a copy of Random House's The Jungle Book App this morning, and I'm guessing that if you have an iPad and kids heading into AO3 you might like to get it too.

You see, until June 16th, it's free. Yay! I like free!

The App looks pretty good. You have a choice of reading either the original unabridged version of the Mowgli stories -Mowgli’s Brothers, Kaa’s Hunting, and Tiger! Tiger!, or alternatively reading from a well abridged picture book version for younger readers. Whichever version you chose, animated pages allow you to break Bagheera from his cage, assist Kaa in hypnotizing the monkeys, and even help Mowgli confront Shere Khan. It's quite good fun, I reckon.

As you know, I'm not a big fan of book apps for learning to read, but in this version only the picture book is voiced - with the original stories you must read yourself, most of the pages are just print, and I think it would make a fun change from a normal read-aloud. Jemimah is certainly enjoying it.

To be honest, I am too. Check it out.

After June 16th the App is $8.99.

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
