Stacking wood

See that beautifully stacked woodpile? I'm feeling rather pleased with myself tonight because I did that! I even lugged the wood all the way from the big higgledy piggledy pile in the middle of the driveway where it had been dumped yesterday afternoon.

I might live in the country, but I must admit that I am not really a country girl. It felt really good to be doing some manual labour though, whilst at the same time doing an 'Act of Service' for my Beloved. (That's his love language, you see, and it's not really mine, so I always feel pleased with myself when I think of something I can do for him.)

Anyhow, as I say I was feeling pleased with myself, but I'm feeling even happier now because I've just discovered that it burns 180 Calories every thirty minutes stacking wood, and it took me twice as long as that. Woo Hoo - how much chocolate can I eat for 360 Calories?

Apparently carrying and stacking wood uses nearly all the muscles in your body. Whodathunkit?Well, actually I'll probably know all about that tomorrow. I think I'd better enjoy being pleased with myself today before the sore muscles appear overnight.

Yay me!

  1. Well done - was a country girl and I have to admit I have never chopped a piece of wood in my life, nor did my mum!! But I can remember my brothers having competitions of who could cut the most wood.

  2. That's a lot of work. But it's so nice to be able to anticipate the cozy fires in the fireplace. My dad used to joke that wood fires warmed you twice--once when you're splitting the wood and once when you're sitting by the fire.

  3. Much as I hate to admit it, I only carried and stacked it - I didn't split it! I am not that clever.

  4. You've just created your own weight loss programme. I might just have to try that programme!

  5. We had a wood stacking afternoon at our house a couple of months back. It took the whole tribe to get it done. I even got in there and done a little of it too. Well, until Charlotte wiggled and jiggled so much in her pram that she fell out.

I love to hear that it helps use up those calories. :o) Might have to order some more wood and do all the hard work myself.

  6. what a shame I don't have any wood to stack, would be a better way to burn calories than just walking:)

  8. You are awesome!! I can't help but be a little envious... we are heading into the dreaded hot and humid days. I love the idea of summer, and I love to see my kids doing all the fun summer activities, but I can't help but long for that crisp, cool air! I really need a summer home Down Under. ;o)

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
