Claire was asking what the Cup Song is.  It's a clapping game, Claire, and it goes like this:

It comes from a movie called Pitch Perfect:

I know nothing about the movie, so I can't recommend it, but I think that audition scene is pretty cool.

Here's the musical version:

It was Jemimah's aim to teach the game to all the kids that we visited on our trip to America. She thought that the game would help them to remember her. Having never listened to the song, I don't think she realised quite how appropriate the lyrics were:

When I’m gone
When I’m gone
You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone
You’re gonna miss me by my hair
You’re gonna miss me everywhere, oh
You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone
So now you know.

Here's a not-very-good-photo of her playing the game with some new friends:

  1. A great way to leave a lasting memory with all those folk. Welcome home stranger. Come over and visit, I still blog occasionally :-)

  2. Have you seen this one? ;)

Love the harmony! And I cannot do this. Absolutely no sense of rhythm!

  3. My girls play this too ... after a while it drove me absolutely mad, and I found myself singing the song around the house. It's so catchy.

I watched the movie, Pitch Perfect recently (due to the kids interest in the Cups song) and got to say there are definite adult themes in it. Alcohol (college party), sex and profanity. It's just here and there but discouraged me from showing my own girls. It's a shame as the musical sections of the show (acapella) was absolutely brilliant and some other scenes were rather funny. :)

  4. I would get into a complete muddle!! Great rhythm

  5. Aaah.... I see. I have seen that somewhere... which is a good thing since my internet speed doesn't seem to be up to the videos...

What a great idea for a memory <3

I'd love you to leave me a message. Tell me what you like - and what you don't. Just remember that this is what we do in our family - it doesn't have to be what you do in yours...
